Hey y’all.
I’m in the dirty, dirty south. I just participated in a lab at the Catalyst Conference today, together with the incredible Leonce and Bianca, who together I now refer to as Beyonce.
(Get it?)
We discussed the qualities, events, and processes that have impacted how we lead. Leonce from his perspective of being a young church planter, Bianca from her perspective of working with a non-profit, and my perspective of starting my own division of Love and Respect, not to mention, working with family!
We were asked to give advice on how to serve young leaders and how to lead as a young leader. We decided to make a little video to say hi and share with you a bit of what we touched on in our lab…
If you are bummed you couldn’t make it to Catalyst this year, there are still ways for you to get involved, learn, and best of all, laugh.
Speaking of laughing, the long time MC’s of the event are Tripp & Tyler. For a taste of their weirdness (and you know I like weirdness), here is one of my favorite videos:
There are so many ways to keep up-to-date with all things Catalyst.
You can check out the speaking schedule HERE. Or, you can check out podcasts of the different speakers HERE.
There’s also a Catalyst Twitter stream, which you can check out HERE, or by following the hashtags #MAKE and #catalyst. For the live blogging of the event, click HERE.
PLUS, I will be live, behind-the-scenes of the conference at 9:30 am EST on October 4. Check it out HERE.
The best news is, many Catalyst speakers are guest posting for the Illumination Project in the upcoming month. Get to know them:
Jennie Allen @JennieSAllen
You can also check out her site www.whatisyouranything.com
Esther Fleece @EstherFleece
Brad Lomenick @bradlomenick (of @catalystleader)
Lindsey Nobles @LindseyNobles (of @food4thehungry)
Bianca Olthoff @BiancaOlthoff (of @TheA21Campaign)
If you are at Catalyst this week, please say hi! And if you aren’t at Catalyst, still say hi because I have a very fine-tuned eardrum.
What are ways you can be a bridge between generations in your community?
Do you own socks as cool as Leonce’s?

Love and Respect (Now) is a division of Love and Respect. Please be considerate.
Loved the lab and loved meeting you!
I think one of the most basic things to do to bridge the gap is just exposure, exposure, exposure. Keep the generations together. There are times for separation, like youth group, etc, but I grew up in a small church with such a huge gap generationally that I had no other choice but to sit and learn and hear stories, and I think that I’m a better person for it today.
I found your website through a random stroke of luck. It helped me do my research on this topic. I have spent lots of time looking through your site. You have something good going here, keep it up!
Christopher Battles (@christophermust) thinks...
We can show others that we are all leaders in some aspect. In fact, we need to show and tell others that we all lead. It is how we lead though, I can lead negatively or positively. I can lead others to mediocrity or to extraordinary. This occurs with family and friends and strangers and how we talk and act.
Thank you for proposing this question and I am glad you got to meet Beyonce. 😉
K, bye
