“By the Lord’s decreethe heavens were made; by a mere word from his mouth all the stars in the sky were created.
He piles up the water of the sea; he puts the oceansin storehouses.
Let the whole earth fearthe Lord! Let all who live in the world stand in awe of him!
For he spoke, and itcame into existence, he issued the decree, and it stood firm.“
Psalm 33:6-9
In January, we launched the Love and Respect Now Gallery, featuring pieces selected from many of you who submitted artwork that supports and illuminates the message of LRN.
What’s the point, Joy? Isn’t this a blog about relationships?
Yes. I believe we can learn theology during a sermon, read truth about God in a blog post or encounter peace through the words of Scripture; yet many of us forget about the way our Creator can teach us through His creation.
My hope is that, through artwork, poetry, spoken word, music and photography, the Gallery will be a place where brush strokes on canvas and strands of melody composed and performed by our own LRN community will offer a unique approach to unveiling the truth of God and relationships.
Today, let the artwork from the Gallery inspire your own prayerful contemplation. It may look, feel, or even sound different than how you typically pray—or maybe you haven’t prayed in a while—but I would encourage you to give it a try anyway. Don’t just consume what you see or hear— engage, think and pray.
May we encounter the Creator through the created,
Joy
Works of art participate in our lives; we are not just observers of their lives. They are in conversation among themselves and with us.
This is a part of the description of human life; we do the way we do partly because of things that have been said to us by works of art, and because of things that we have said in reply.
