So, I have an idea…
I didn’t even think through the fact that #MMM was also used in every person’s yummy food photo. I’m so special. So make sure you tag the Love and Respect NOW page on Facebook, @loverespectNOW on Twitter or @joyeggerichs on Instagram. Here’s my video update on the Amendment. Sorry folks!
Don’t forget (or question) the instructions:
1. Set six alarms for Monday, May 7th.
2. Take a picture of whatever is in front of you when alarms go off.
3. Post pictures to twitter, Facebook, instagram, etc. with #MMM (no filters, artistic angles, or descriptions), plus see amendement above.
4. Comment here on Tuesday, May 8th with people’s responses to your pictures, and how you felt participating.
5. Tell your friends to do this, too!
I promise to tell you why we’re doing this next week!
After participating…
What did you think/feel as you posted your pictures?
What were the reactions of other people who saw your photos?

@Michaeleen, FYI! http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=432842820077961&ref=notif¬if_t=video_processed
So I only got around to posting 5 photos. But I got a total of 2 comments. My roommate texting me asking me what the random pictures were all about. Then the other comment was “ummmmm” to a picture of the stairwell at work. Other pictures were of Pinterest, putting on my shoes in the morning, my water bottler at work, and the inside of an elevator. 🙂 And yes I definitely felt a bit uncomfortable posting pictures without an explanation. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you have to say about it. 🙂
Okay – so I’m a little behind on my world of Joy experiences… so I’m just now seeing this. So what does that mean? It means I’m going to go out on the limb here and shoot for #TTT (Totally Tardy Tuesday) pictures 🙂 Hope you don’t mind, but I just can’t miss out on an opportunity to figure out what you’re doing!
@Kelly, I love that you did #TTT – the album is up and I think we got a few of your pics! http://ow.ly/aMBYY
I have to admit. It was pretty difficult following your (seemingly simple) instructions especially the no artistic angles and no descriptions. Also, I might have moved an alarm schedule in an attempt to break the monotony of my photos. Teehee. 😛
A friend of mine liked a photo and another liked the album where I put my MMM photos on facebook.
Another friend noticed the consistency of my photos (being my desk at work) and commented once the monotony changed, asking if i was on break seeing that there was no sight of a work laptop.
Still very intrigued about what this is all about.
@JL, I’m glad you are intrigued and I appreciate hearing how it went! http://ow.ly/aMBYY
Well, the first picture was kind of a cute one, so I had one ‘like’, then I just had the chance to post all the pictures together in the evening, and felt a bit uncomfortable posting all that random stuff.
I guess most of them went unnoticed, my friends are really shy, hehe; but soon new comments will pop up.
Can’t wait to see where this is going.
Ah, it wasn’t possible to tag the pictures, so I used the comment box to tag you. Dunno if you folks have seen them.
Anyway, it was fun being part of it.
@Gardenia, Hopefully we captured some of your pictures. If not I am so sorry! There was such a great response and I appreciate your feedback. Here’s the album: http://ow.ly/aMBYY
random thoughts I had throughout the day:
“i hope everyone else is having as lame a day as me.. maybe that’s why it’s called mundane monday?”
“my twitter friends are going to think i’m weird” (though i actually got zero response from anyone.. whomp whomp)
“is this really what i want my life to look like?”
“i’ll probably delete these photos in a week or so so people don’t think i’m weird. since everyone EVER is noticing and everything”
“i wanna see everyone’s!”
“i kinda wanna do this again. maybe for a month. but i’d want. an iphone because this camera is the worst”
@Sarah, Now you CAN see everyones…or some of them: http://ow.ly/aMBYY
Loved your internal dialogue.
“Oh snap, I just woke up and that’s a #MMM alarm…guess I should take a picture now…”
“Goodness studying for this test is sooo boring, when will my next #mmm alarm go off?! I hope I’m somewhere cool…nope, I’ll probably still be looking at this study guide…”
“Man my friends must think I’m obsessed with my phone the way I keep checking it today…”
“This is so cool. I want to do this again.”
@Lindsey, Love your feedback! Here’s the album with some of the shots: http://ow.ly/aMBYY
I thought it was awesome. I loved seeing what everyone else was doing. Though, after an afternoon at my computer I was kind of annoyed that three of my seven pictures were AT my computer…maybe that’s why I procrastinated last night, so I wouldn’t have another picture of my computer screen. [Okay…probably not.]
It was also great to see that there were plenty of other people stuck behind computer screens, or trapped on couches all day long. I’m not the only one who isn’t enjoying an iced americano in a field in a perfectly staged picture.
Great experiment, Joy! I loved it.
@Haley, “It was also great to see that there were plenty of other people stuck behind computer screens, or trapped on couches all day long. I’m not the only one who isn’t enjoying an iced americano in a field in a perfectly staged picture.”
Perfect.

I really only had one person ask/comment about it. And they just text messaged me aobut what was going on. NO one on facebook commented at all. I figure it was because they probably expect crazy stuff from me, so they probably figured that if they responded they’d knowingly be involving in my antics.
Well…I posted throughout the day and it was kind of tough for me b/c I am artsy and desire to be a photographer and to just shoot what I was looking at right then & there without a filter to help it out a bit was tough…I received NO comments…I thought maybe people would wonder what #MMM stood for…I was afraid they might think I thought my gym bag was delicious. LOL I usually get lots of likes or comments on my Instagram or FB when I take pics…I had ONE person like a picture I took of my filing cabinet open with files on top…it wasn’t even that great of a pic…I just assumed they were probably doing the same thing b/c I didn’t know that person and they liked my Instagram pic & started following me….believe me…it’s not the kind of picture you see & say…Oh…I’ve gotta start following them on Instagram…LOL!
All that to say…pretty uneventful in the comments department on May’s Mundane Monday…pretty much lived up to the title of the day!
@Alecia, haha! I love your break down. It’s fun to get into everyone’s heads about how they felt.
Here are some of the pics: http://ow.ly/aMBYY
well, Joy, now your instagram feed from yesterday makes a whole lot more sense.
I have had trouble with this, as I am on an ipad, and cannot watch your instructive video. I liked taking the pictures. I uploaded them to facebook. I “tagged” them, but it didn’t really work, even though I’d “liked” your page. Hmmm.
@Ti Bergenn, So sorry. There were definitely some technical difficulties going on yesterday. But hopefully on Thursday when I post my reason for this, you will understand and get the takeaway which is what I hope to give to people!
If you want to see other people’s pics: http://ow.ly/aMBYY
I think I took 8 pictures. I got a couple of random “likes” through Instagram and I think you “liked” all of them. There were only two pictures I got comments on on Facebook. One was a woman who thought the picture was of her husband in his car and one from a gym friend who recognized the sidewalk in front of my office as part of the block we run around as a warmup. That’s about it.
I thought it was kind of fun charting my day through pictures. I realized I spend a lot more time out of the office and in my car than I realized, but yesterday was crazy busy, too, so that may not be a true reflection.
Altogether I thought it was kind of fun! Can’t wait to hear your analysis of all the pics!
@Julie, Sounds kind of similar to my day! Here are some of the pics: http://ow.ly/aMBYY
I took a total of 6 pictures! I thought it was fun because I set the times on Saturday at random times so I would be surprised on Monday. I had several likes on my photos and some people who asked and looked it up! I hope next time we can hashtag something that will be easier to find 🙂
@Talia Montoya, Seriously. I can’t believe I chose #MMMMMMMM. I’m so special.
Here is the album: http://ow.ly/aMBYY
Well first off, I never set alarms on my phone so every time one went off, I just about had a heart attack. I think I took 6 or 7 pics, and had comments on the baseball one. People are always surprised to see a 20-something sibling at a little league game, not to mention score keeping. otherwise, they were pretty random work things or food related because I work…and eat.
@CJ (seizemusic), I jumped too! It was this crazy sound and I panicked when they went off.
Here is the album with some of the photos: http://ow.ly/aMBYY My reaction piece will be up on Thursday.
SO – because I’m that girl who missed the party… I’m doing my pictures today. (if you want to see them check for hashtag #TTT – Terribly Tardy Tuesday)
And so far my thoughts are these –
1. I care way too much what other people think.
– I’ve found myself posting the pictures and than anxiously waiting to see if anyone likes them or comments on them. Like what they say would make my day less tedious or less mundane. And in a way it’s heartbreaking because I realize now that I do that we as a society do that all the time. It used to be that we judged each other based on looks, money, cars, clothes and all those terrible things…. now we judge each other and ourselves based on all that and the number of likes, followers or comments we receive.
2. I love what I do for a living but when you sum it up in snap shots… I wish there were more people and more life impacting interactions involved. I know in my heart that God has called me to be a part of something bigger than myself… and according to these pictures that’s not what’s happening throughout my day.
Wow… um, Joy – please interject some of your light and humor here because I think I just somehow turned this project from Mundane Monday to Debbie Downer 🙁
@Kelly, I think you are realizing exactly one of the aspects I was hoping people would realize. Don’t let it be a downer. Let it be healthy introspection.
I am trying to think of a knock knock joke to lighten things, but I’m stuck.
Don’t beat yourself up. Go look at some of the other pictures from the day: http://ow.ly/aMBYY
My thoughts will be posted on Thursday!
Maybe it’s because I’m nosy and shy, but I absolutely loved “snooping” into everyone’s day! It’s a good reminder that we are all so different, yet the same.
But to be honest, I felt a little disheartened that my life is so boring. I feel like God has so much more for me. But then I also think that I need to make the most of where God has put me right now! Those were the work pics.
My home pics made me so happy! I love cooking with my husband, love cuddling with him- and my dog- on the couch. I guess all in all it’s a mixed bag, but totally fun!
I got a few “likes”.
It made me wonder when it would go off.
Would it go off in the shower/bathroom?
Also it was wondering if I would get a cool shot or a “mundane” shot.
Looking at it from a spiritual side it is that “you never know when God will be trying to get your attention” or “to pray throughout the day.”
Thank you Joy. This was fun.
K, bye
I really was excited to participate in this. It was hard for me to not think of what I’d be doing while setting my alarms because I totally wanted people to think I had an interesting life. However, I also realize that I was self-conscious about being obnoxious on social media. Therefore I directly replied to your twitter which means only people who follow both loverespectnow AND me could see the photos. I didn’t post any on fb or instagram. Which also means I received no feedback from other people.
Oooops. I’m probably not your best student.
I posted my photos only on Twitter but one friend replied that my day had been “very beige” after the first three photos. She also noticed and commented on the ping-pong ball on my desk. I missed taking photos right when a couple of the alarms went off because I was in a business meeting without my phone one time and was having car trouble another time, but I took the photos as soon as I could and didn’t worry about it.
Coz I’m from New Zealand I got a bit of a head start on everyone else (yet am only just commenting now, go figure), and couldn’t tell if I was doing it right coz I didn’t have anyone elses to check on.
Because it was Monday it was my day off so the pics were kinda random shots! Bit sad that no one commented on them though! (I did comment on one of my friends who was doing the #MMM aswell coz it was so obscure).
Fav shots- the ones when I was biking along the street, felt like a bit of a rebel taking photos as I biked!
It did make me think, I wonder what shots I would have gotten if I had done it on a day that I was working..? even Tue and today I was thinking “hmm.. I wonder what sort of shot I would have gotten at that time on this day…?”
It was a strange project and I’m anticipating what the reason behind it it! Is it about making the most of our days? That’s my guess! Well onto people’s reactions. No one said anything to me about it until my last picture. And the only people who liked my photos on Instagram were people involved with #MMM. And I did wonder what people were thinking as I was posting obscure photos all day that had no reason behind them. But the only person to verbally say something to me was great! I was at Bible study and I took a shot of the group that I was looking at and then she said, “Are you taking a picture of his butt??”. I laughed really loud. Like real loud. And then I explained to her what I was doing and it just happened that that guy was turned around. So it was interesting to say the least and I’m excited to hear what your reasons were for this!

that was fun… i slept through my first alarm and so when i turned on my phone it reset for ten minutes later. so my first photo was of me mucking out the chook pen. (i.e. was a photo of chicken poo). that one wasn’t included. sorry to disappoint. so the rest of the day i kept staring at awesome things (like a kookaburra which was flying around, the horses next door, a beautiful gum tree and our ‘pet’ lizard showing off his amazing climbing skills on our brick wall), but alas, my alarm didn’t go off at any of those times. and then when i posted on facebook i didn’t want any of my friends to think i was mad, so i made the album only visible to Joy. haha, maybe this whole thing has shown me that i think far too much about what people think of me….
Michaeleen thinks...
Question: Should all 6 alarms be set for the same time? And if at different times, do you want 6 different pictures?
