Formal Lunch: For the Love of Old People

Ok, last month’s formal lunch was something to do with a group of your friends. This month is something to do with UNO friend. (Uno means “one” for you English-speaking people.)

Find a friend who shares your interest in asking questions, learning and old people.

Oh, I’m the only one into old people? 

You know how I always tell 99.342oe$#% of people to seek older wiser counsel? Well, if you didn’t then you obviously haven’t read any of my posts.  This month I want you to find one of those grey-haired beauties or gents and pool your money together and take them out to dinner or if the funds are lacking, out for dessert.

Let them know that in exchange for buying them dinner you want to ask them questions about being a woman or man, husband or wife.

Here are some ideas for you, but you can let the conversation flow however feels most natural to you and them.

1. What was dating like when you were growing up?
2. What do you know now that you wish you would have known 20 years ago? Or prior to marriage? Or in your first couple years of marriage?
3. What drew you to your spouse? What keeps/kept you with your spouse?
4. What do you notice about my generation’s relationships that are different than yours?
5. Why do/did you like being married?

And bonus points for taking out a widow or widower. They are often among the forgotten and it breaks my heart.
