A Few Questions For God

Hello Friendlings,

I’ve been doing the ol’ #AskJoy videos for the past few years but I’ve never shared an actual video from a speaking engagement.

I figured it was time. (Also, the thing we had originally scheduled to post today was having some technical difficulties. #realreason)

In previous posts, I’ve shared that I went through a tough break up. Though I haven’t disclosed all the details of that break up (and I still won’t, sorry), the message I recently shared at Liberty University will give you a few more.  I also hope it will point you toward the more important lessons that came out of that and a few other seasons in my life—ones that have caused me to wrestle with the reality of God’s love for me, His word, and His goodness.

It’s just over 30 minutes long, so no pressure to watch the whole thing—but if you want to see my impromptu rapping skills, stick around for the first 30 seconds. They’re surprisingly good frighteningly bad.

It all depends on your taste.

From my sincere heart,

Joy

Joy, it is a RARE RARE thing if I ever listen to anything that takes up more than 15 minutes of my precious time, BUT!!! That problem does not exist when I listen to you speak because, yes, you are just THAT cool to me, Shawndra Higgins, the coolness judge of all things cool lol. I would imagine that it’s hard to remain humble because of all the awesomeness you contain, but I pray that you do because….that is indeed what makes you THAT cool and such a dear blessing to me in MY heart. 🙂 God Bless you Joy! Thank you for everything that you share from your heart! Keep it coming! *hugs*

MY HEAD IS EXPLODING!! HUMILITY HAS JUST LEFT THE BUILDING. (-: No but truly, your words mean a ton and I so appreciate when people who have been encouraged say something because that feels like affirmation that I am hopefully speaking truth. This is a talk I have definitely prayed and sat in for awhile!

Joy, Joy, Joy. This was so great. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing more of your story, and also for speaking such wonderful truth so humbly. Your words are honest and real and true. Thankful for you always!

This was so inspiring on so many levels that I have to disagree with your parting words. I believe that your words will resonate with many long after they have heard this speech.

      God Bless You Joy:)!

      Hi Joy!

I was going to write to you in Ask Joy, but figured since you talked about it in the video, I’d just ask here. You mentioned that you and your dad had talked about how to approach men to show them respect in hopes that they would start pursuing you.

Now I’m wondering about the same sort of thing for women. Clearly, they won’t be the ones that are pursuing you, but wondering about it nonetheless. Is there a way to approach them where their interest would be piqued? This sounded like a much more fluid question when I thought about in my head while watching the video. Does that make sense or do you need more clarification of my question? Ha! 🙂

Haha…well I think there are some posts I have done. One video comes to mind about asking questions and how to romance a woman. Check those out…as well as my father’s book Love and Respect should help you start to understand yourself and women. Ultimately the goal is for you to take enough time to observe and get to know the woman you are interested in pursing and find ways to speak her “mother tongue.” My example was a “test” that didn’t understand the power behind the words. Just as men can say, “I love you” to manipulate. We must be careful to not just try and follow a formula to “get what we want”. I’m not saying that’s you by any means. But check out my dads book, those posts mentioned and maybe even the “who pursues” series I did awhile back.

        Good question!

this is gonna sound cuh-razay, but i have to say it: Joy, you have been special to me since long before i ever met you. truly. it has been such a privilege to watch your journey (from afar)…to watch the Lord bless your ministry and to watch you do nothing but give glory back to Him. i am so happy i took the time to watch/listen to this talk!! you did not disappoint! (mama’s “free” time is rare these days!) i feel like you said so many things that young adults (and/or everyone) need to hear but no Christian leader ever says straight up the way you did. how much better is it for us to strengthen our faith by questioning it during the happy times in our lives than to wait until those questions are spurred by pain and heartbreak?! i thank the Lord for you and your allowing the Lord to use you!

        That didn’t sound cuh-razay at all! I am touched by your words. And I remember hearing all about you before I met you too. It’s so fun to have Erin be part of my story and this journey and to now be “grafted in” to the Hobbie family. You guys have loved me well and I love you all. Thank you for your great encouragement and for taking the busy-momma time to watch me. Kiss your kids for me. And Ryan too if ya want. (-;

So many words to write! But seriously, I missed the day you came to Liberty, I was prob. sleeping. I actually found your site through Twitter. But in all honesty, I feel it is only God. Funny that we have the same name andd believe it or not, unicorns have been a favorite of mine, too. No reason other than they are ridiculous and better than horses. haha All this to say, keep going. I have encountered what is seemingly the most struggle some years through college. Brutal even. I wish I had known more before and I am only 22. Thank you for being real. I hope to someday communicate what God has done in my life, in a way that is real and blessed by God. =)

Thank you so much for your honesty and reality. What you shared in this video touched my soul having dealt with what sound like similar post-break-up traumas. It’s always encouraging to know that you are not the only one who has felt these things. Your ministry and vision looks fantastic and I will definitely be sharing your insight with friends over here in Europe. ALSO, love your use of humour – I was properly laughing out loud in places during this video.

Joy, this is such a great talk, and I loved how you weaved in your personal story. I did a nine-month program at a place modeled after L’abri and it was so formative. Thanks for sharing!

      Hello Joy,
Thank you for sharing this on here. It is amazing to hear how God has worked in your life.
I’m a great admirer of your videos, and how clearly you unpack God’s truth in them.
I also wanted to say thank you because I’ve just finished watching this video with my mum who isn’t a christian and that talk actually made her stop and listen and consider God (she only caught half of it but still, God’s words don’t return to Him empty!).
      Love Hannah.

Wow! It’s crazy how I randomly stumbled upon this. It’s almost as if I was directed straight to this article to watch you speak. I really needed this. I don’t know how much you’ll believe this but I feel like God spoke to me through you. You were funny, but you said quite a few things that made me tear up. Thank you for this.
