Formal lunch has nothing to do with lunch or with wearing a tuxedo.

Huh?

I know, I realize it’s a weird title, but it’s what I have decided to call the monthly research project.

Why?

A number of years ago, I lived in a community called, L’Abri. It was a place where you lived in intentional community, worked half the day, and studied half the day.

Throughout the week, we would meet in different groups over lunch, and anyone could bring up a topic they were studying and then we discuss the topic together.

I still don’t know why it was called “formal.”

But, I’m stealing the name because it was such a transformational time in my life. It was a season where I asked more questions than ever before and wrestled with my faith and my humanity in a very tangible way.

Three main reasons I am doing this are as follows:

1. I want you to take what we are discussing online into your real-life community.
2. Many of you have asked how you can help LRN.
3. Many of you have asked how you can help your friends.

So, each month I will put together a discussion topic and a suggested way to have Formal Lunch with people in your community. You can tailor it however you want. Then, if you have any interesting conclusions, interactions, or magical unicorn sightings, I would love to hear from you.
